Prevention of violence against women against COVID-19 in Latin America and the Caribbean. At the same time as we face the devastating impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in Latin America and the Caribbean, as in all regions of the world, it is urgent to face another pandemic that cannot be left in the shadows: violence against women and girls.
This human rights violation affects an average of one in three women throughout their lives1 and, in 2018 alone, resulted in at least 3,800 victims of femicides / feminicides. Although these figures seem very high, it is estimated that the real magnitude of the phenomenon is underestimated and that the health emergency is making it even worse.
In order to guide public, private, civil society and international community actors, this document collects some preliminary data on the impact of the pandemic on violence against women and girls and offers strategies, recommendations, and some promising practices to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls in the face of COVID-19... World Bank Predicts Sharpest Decline of Remittances in Recent History. Global remittances are projected to decline sharply by about 20 percent in 2020 due to the economic crisis induced by the COVID-19 pandemic and shutdown. Remittances to low and middle-income countries (LMICs) are projected to fall by 19.7 percent to $445 billion, representing a loss of a crucial financing lifeline for many vulnerable households...
